“Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.”
Peter Drucker
The basic definition of leadership is guiding a group of people toward a common goal.
Leadership development is an approach to expand the performance capability of executives in leadership roles within the organisation. It is not achieved through a single step but rather through a journey and coaching is one tool to support executives on this journey.
Andy believes that good leaders demonstrate qualities such as accountability; empathy; confidence; optimism and honesty.
At the beginning and at the end of the coaching process Andy asks the executive to assess their leadership skills in the following areas:
- Building relationships
- Leading courageously
- Influencing others
- Fostering team work
- Championing change
- Coaching and developing others
- Motivating and inspiring others
- Building relationships
By assisting the executive to recognise their natural leadership trait, Andy seeks to identify if the executive is unwilling or unable to make improvements in their leadership style.
