Andy Bourne’s determination to be the best at whatever he does, was shaped at an early age by his commitment and dedication to becoming an international swimmer. When he was 10 years of age, his mother was told by the local swimming club coach, “I don’t think he’ll be able to swim a mile let alone make the grade as a competitive swimmer.” After finding a new coach and 10 years of training, he represented Great Britain at a senior level in 1500m freestyle. When he retired from swimming he applied this determination to shape a successful business career.
With over 3 decades of business experience of creating teams and leading a variety of organisations. Andy Bourne has a true passion for supporting people with their development and achieving organisational success through leveraging increased shareholder value by maximising the potential of his teams. Andy was influenced by his early personal experiences of coaching in sport and the improvements made by professional athletes from working with coaches and this shaped his approach to business coaching and leadership.
A Computer and Management Science graduate from the University of Warwick, Andy Bourne has held marketing director posts on the Boards of several multi-site leisure companies, including Civic Leisure and Cannons Health and Fitness.
In addition, he has created, operated and sold three entrepreneurial businesses and in December 2015, he sold his successful health club business, Xpect Leisure Ltd to Bannatyne Fitness Ltd.
Andy is a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) and holds their Level 7 diploma in Executive Coaching & Leadership Mentoring. In addition, he has attained a ILM Level 7 award in Strategic Leadership.
As a coach, he works with the European Mentoring and Coaching Council’s Global Code of Ethics.
On a personal level, Andy has two adult daughters and four grandchildren. Whilst his early swimming career at the elite level ended when he began his working life, his passion for sport continues, and he now competes in his age group at an international level in triathlons. More recently, he has twice won his age group at the European Triathlon Championships and has achieved a silver in the Worlds Aquathlon Championships.
Andy coaches with his local triathlon club and volunteers his time encouraging participation in the sport in his local area.
